Tiffany-Waffles

Waffles. I know you're thinking "what could waffles possibly have to do with Madagascar?" I'm about to tell you.

Today, the rains continued to fall from the heavens. It was a great reminder of home, that I think we all enjoy feeling, no matter how irritating getting wet walking everywhere may be. Paige, Laura and I spent the morning reading our Bibles, exercising, and chatting about various topics. Each week, two of us cook each night. Tonight, is Paige and I's night to cook. We decided to venture out into the wet streets of Manakara in search of something to make later in the evening.

We dodged puddles, tried to escape getting wet by cars driving by, and got to the market without being too wet. As Matt said yesterday, the market was nearly flooded. Ok ok....thats a little bit of an exaggeration...but the two entrances we usually take were flooded. After we found a dry section, we went in, bought the items needed, and headed home. We were excited that we had made it out, semi-dry.

After lunch, we planned to meet up with our new friend, Judge Olga. She is a great new friend that we really enjoy spending time with. Her children are so cute and ALWAYS smiling. After talking in her office about Vazimbas, Kokolambys and faith in the workplace, she invited us over for some coffee. We never pass up an opportunity for coffee here...ever. When we got to her house, we sat down, and she turned on BBC. She does this so we can watch the news....in English. Isn't she the sweetest?

After a few minutes, she came out and asked Mika (who was with us) in Malagasy if we wanted "gauffer cakes." she described them as cakes with little squares. WAFFLES! It took a few seconds before Paige, Laura and I exclaimed "YES!" The three of us were so extremely excited, especially since all three of us have dreamed about waffles in the past few days! Waffles are not something we ate regularly in America, but for some reason we are craving them here! The special treat was soothing to the soul and felt like home.

Madagascar is continuing to become like a second home for all of us. We are nearly settled. We have made friends that will, no doubt, last a lifetime. We love spending time with the people here. There is no other way to say it...we are all starting to see a little glimpse of what John says in chapter 3 verse 16 "for God so loved the world..."
